Rural King Weekly Ad – On June 5, 1960, Kermit and Keith Speer established Beaird Rural King Supply in Mattoon. Originally launched shop in a former building of 7,200 square feet implementation. The company started with two employees, except the owners. In 1963, an addition was added to the main building. In 1966, a warehouse was built, and in 1970, an extra second is added to the store. A new building is completed and opened in September 1976. In 1999, a new shop, warehouse and corporate offices consisting of 210,000 square feet was opened across the road from the old store. Old shop and warehouse were donated to Catholic Charities.

In 2003, an additional 94,000-square-foot warehouse was added. In 2007, another 96,000 square feet were added to the repository. In 2010, a third expansion based repository that will add 104,000 square feet. In 1962, Kermit and Keith opened a shop in Paris, Ill., In an old packing house with eight rooms. In 1970, land was purchased all of Edgar County Fairgrounds and new Paris Rural King is built. In 2001, the building was demolished and the current 55,000-square-foot Paris Rural King is built. Paris was home and pat Kermit Speer’s for 15 years.

Vandalia, Ill., Rural King opened in 1966 in an old building sw US Highway 40 East. Rural A new king was built in November 1973 in Van Tran Avenue, which was renamed Veterans Avenue. An addition to the building was completed in 1983. In 1979, Gary Melvin, Speer Kermit’s nephew, bought a stake in Rural King. Gary began his career working in the shop, learning products and serve customers.

Bruce Speer, Speer Kermit’s nephew, bought a stake in Rural King in 1982, with the opening of Litchfield, Ill., Store. Bruce began his career as manager of the shop Litchfield. In 1985, he and his family moved to Terre Haute, Ind., Where he opened and managed the store for five years. In 1990, Bruce moved to Mattoon corporate office to assist with the purchase and expansion of Rural King stores. In December 2015 Rural King announced they had reached, for the first time, $ 1 billion in total sales.
